How to Open Ports on Genexis Router/Modem

Here’s a step-by-step guide to help you open ports on your Genexis router/modem:

1. Access the Router Interface:

  • Now, I’m going to demonstrate how I set up port forwarding on my Genexis Platinum-7840. This guide applies to other models of Genexis routers as well.
  • To access the configuration page of your Genexis router/modem, there are two common methods:
    • Default Gateway Address: You can enter the default gateway address in your web browser. The default gateway address is the IP address of your router/modem on your local network. You can find this address using Command Prompt (CMD) by following these steps:
      • Open Command Prompt: Press the Windows key, type “cmd” in the search bar, and press Enter.
      • In the Command Prompt window, type the following command and press Enter:

					ipconfig

  • Look for the “Default Gateway” entry under the network adapter you’re using (usually labeled as Ethernet or Wi-Fi).The IP address listed next to “Default Gateway” is the default gateway address of your router/modem.
  • Router URL: Alternatively, you can directly access the router interface by entering the router’s URL in your web browser. The URL is often http://router or https://router
  • Once you have either the default gateway address or the router’s URL, enter it into the address bar of your web browser and press Enter to access the router’s configuration page.
      •
    •

2. Log In:

    • Log in using the default username and password. For most Genexis routers, the default username is “admin” and the password can be found on a sticker attached to the router itself.

3. Navigate to Port Forwarding:

    • Once logged in, navigate to the “Internet” section of the router interface. Look for the “Port Forwarding”  option.

4. Add a New IPv4 Rule:

    • Click on “Add New IPv4 Rule” to start configuring port forwarding for your Genexis Router/Modem

5. Enter the Required Information:

    • Fill in the following details:
      • Service Name: Give a descriptive name to identify the service or application you’re forwarding ports for.
      • Source Host: Usually left blank unless you have a specific source for incoming traffic.
      • Public Ports: Specify the port or range of ports you want to open on the public side (external).
      • Local Host: Enter the IP address of the device on your local network that will receive the incoming traffic.
      • Local Port: Specify the port or range of ports on the local side (internal) that the incoming traffic will be forwarded to.
      • Protocol: Choose the protocol for the port forwarding rule (TCP, UDP, or both).

6. Save Your Settings:

    • Once you’ve entered all the necessary information, click on the “Save” button to apply the port forwarding rule.

That’s it! You’ve successfully opened ports on your Genexis  router/modem. Remember to only open ports for trusted applications or services, and always keep your router’s firmware up to date for security purposes.
