In Football Manager are all countries included, but not every country is playable. With the FM Editor, you can change this. In this blog, I will show you how to make more countries playable in Football Manager. I’ll explain how to activate a country and how to create a league within that country. In the image below, you can see the currently playable countries in Football Manager. I will be adding San Marino to this list.
- Open the FM Editor and load a database.
- Click on “Rules” and then select “Add Nation Rules“.
3. Select “A Nation” and then “Other Nations.” Choose the country you want to add to FM. and click “Next – Settings“.
4. Here, specify the duration of the season. You can leave it at the default setting, but I find it more practical to extend the season length. This allows for more matches per season if needed. I recommend using the settings shown in the image below.
6. In this case, choose “Single Division“.
8. Now, fill in the “Number of Rounds“. I choose 2 so that teams play each other once at home and once away.
For the substitution rules, I select “5 from 15”. This means you can make 5 substitutions from a bench of 15 players per match.
I’ll leave “Number of Promotion / Relegation Places” as it is because we have only one league, so this doesn’t apply.
Choose a match day to your liking.
And click on “Finish“.
9. On the left-hand side, expand “Divisions”, click on the league you added, and then navigate to “General”.
We will now set up league sorting rules, which determine how tiebreakers are resolved when teams finish with the same number of points at the end of the competition
10. Scroll down to “Sorting Rules” and click on “Add“. I recommend setting it up as shown in the image below.
11. Under “League Sorting Rules,” you can also set the amount that each club receives per season from television rights. Enter your desired amount here.
12. Now go to the “Prize Money” tab.
13. Under the “Prize Money” tab, click on “Add“. Click “Add” the number of times corresponding to the number of teams in your league. The San Marino league consists of 16 teams, so click “Add” 16 times.
14. Now, specify the position on the right-hand side. This ranges from 1 to 16 in my case. Then enter the prize money that will be distributed per position.
15. Now, we will set up cups like the FA Cup, Copa del Rey, etc. On the left-hand side, click on “Cups“.
16. Select the FA Cup (or its equivalent). Even though it’s not exactly the FA Cup, winning this cup will automatically qualify the team for a continental club competition such as the Champions League.
And click on “Next“.
17. Now select the cup; make sure you do not select the Super Cup, but the regular cup.
And click on “Next“.
18. In the “Select Teams” tab, click on “Add” and select the league.
Here you specify the teams participating in the tournament.
And click on “Next“.
19. Now fill in the settings according to your preference. I have set it up as shown in the image below.
And click on “finish“.
21. Now select the Super Cup competition.
22. Add the two competitions now. The winners of these two competitions will play the Super Cup match.
23. On the settings page, choose your preferences. I have set the date at the beginning of the season in 2023.
And click on “finish“.
Now the league and the cup are set up.
24. Now we will set up the transfer windows. Go to “Nation Rules,” then to “General,” and click on “Transfer Windows.”
We will now set up the two transfer windows. One window will be in January and the other in July/August, similar to the typical transfer windows in most European countries.
25. Click on “Add” twice. Remove the day and then fill in the details as shown in the image below. By default, the year is set to 2000, which is fine. The transfer windows will be the same each year even though it shows the year 2000.
The last thing we will add are the discipline rules. Here, we will define the rules for yellow and red cards.
26. Navigate to the “General” tab and select “Discipline Rules“.
27. Change the sequence. I have set it to 5, 10, 15. This means that after receiving 5 yellow cards, the player will be suspended for 1 game.
That’s it. Now we’re going to save the settings.
- Click on ‘Save Editor Data As…‘ then choose a name and press ‘Save.’
After saving, make sure to check the rules; otherwise, it won’t work.
Click on ‘Rules‘ and then ‘Test Rules.‘ If the rules are valid, save the database again. After this, you can open Football Manager and load your database.
When creating a new save game in Football Manager, you select the database that you have created.
You will then see that your country is listed among the options.
